Update : Tyranids - Progress

I've done quite a progress after the last update. I've managed to complete my second Hive Guard on Thursday night & started on my second Tervigon yesterday...wooohoooo!!!!

I brought them to our hobby night for other members to see them, & I've received alot of positive feedback on how to improve their appearance. One of it is our member Dan advised & showed me how to make depth impression on the models. I knew something was not quite right with my models earlier & thanks to him, I've figured out the issue. So, once the second Big Momma completed, I should able to have the right depth appreance on my army.
Below are some pictures taken on the gaming table :)

Next update wil be after the Tervigon completion.
Cheers :)

Update : Tyranids - Tervigon WIP

After almost a week of struggle, my Tervigon is complete...well, almost :)

As you guys can see, that's how it look like after painted & based. I just need to do some minor touch-ups, & I'm thinking of applying blood effect at the birth sac. My idea is the blood color will be green, mainly to match up Necron internal glow (the translucent green) which my partner will be painting for his list.

During my search on the net, I've found this cool forum The Tyranid Hive, which made specially for Nids player hehehehe. Good info found & the forum also pretty active & entertaining. This will be one of my good resources for future experience.

Back to the topic, I found this link in the forum which explaining the steps of making blood stain, which I hope I'm able to replicate it for my Tervigons. Wish me luck, this will be my first attempt to make blood stain hehe

Apart from that, the next plan will be painting another Hive Guard before getting back to the second Tervigon, switch to dozen termagants before completing the final Momma.

So, till the next update.
Cheers :)

Progress in Absence

It's been a month since my last post...huhuhu time really fly when you have alot of stuffs to keep up with. So, progress updates within the time gap...here we go:

Mid Feb.:
- Start collecting Flames of War Soviet 8th Independent Penal Battalion which will be going for war in Bagration Campaign by mid May.
- Painted mock sample for Soviet Tank. Trying to see the color scheme if it's okay or not.

End Feb.:
- Completing mock sample a.k.a. 1st diorama attempt of Tyranids. Quite proud of it as it turned out to be as I imagined ;)

- Bought WH40K Tyranid Hive Guard (x2) to get ready for Kindred Tournament on end June. Start priming & do basing along with the Trygon bought earlier.

Early March till to date:
- Got myself two new housemates (?). Quite actively distracting me to get my attention & affection, while deterring me from completing my hobby works.

- Successfully convert my storage room into my hobby den (finally...YEAAAAA!!!!) Its not a big space but decent enough to have a dedicated place to pile up my works without trashing up the whole living room ;)

- Received the new Tervigon (x3) OOOOYYYEEEEAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

- Completed color scheme for my Hive Fleet. Muahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

That's all for now. I'll update more once all the Big Momma's done priming & based.

Warhammer 40K : Tyranids

Alas....after reading through the forbidden codex, the Hive Mind has influenced my rational consciousness & turned me into a Synapse Creature. The first instinct received to this mind was to build a fleet & run amok against all 40K races. Muahahahahahaha!!!!!!

So, last weekend I went to visit Alvin's place: The Hobby Forge in Cova Square at Kota Damansara & it was a pleasant visit. Not only the shop is decent, a lot of players come in to brush up skills & exchanging info. A lot of merchandise selection there as well, you can find almost everything related to 40K & miniatures stuffs. I highly recommend any enthusiast to drop by there.

As for me, I bought a Tyranid Trygon. Its my 1st official fleet member YEAAA!!!!!

So, I’ll be taking my sweet time to indulge myself to complete this monster..can’t wait to see how it turns out after complete painting hehehehe

My colour scheme for nids will be pretty much simple; ivory / bone colour for skin, blue carapace, red claws, flesh colour for internal & flesh, & maybe some highlights here and there. Couldn’t made up my mind yet for the final scheme, but will let you guys know once I finished my test pieces.

Achievement Medals

As a request by Khairul (maybe others as well), here's are the medals I've made. I got the inspiration to do the medals after Jeff mentioning it the other days, so I just try it out. I'm not that familiar using Adobe Photoshop & other design softwares, so the design are somewhat plain. Maybe if I can get someone with the skill who able to design them better, it may come handy somedays :)

The first badge is Flames of War Newbie Gamer. This badge is created as a reward for a complete beginner (as myself) who able to fullfill these criterias:
1. Built a playable army list (1k pts minimum to 2k pts max)
2. Paint the whole army in the list (at least fullfill the minimum requirement tabletop gaming standard - base colored, undercoated, minimum 2 color painted, better if able to fully complete them with details & decals)
3. Play a game using the army list (whether you win or not)

The next medal is the Operation Market Garden Campaign Medal. This medal is a token to indicate that the player has participated & played the campaign (minimum played halfway through the campaign). I tried to find a nice picture showing the iconic bridge of Arnhem & parachutes in the background, but I couldn't find it. So, in the end I just picked a parachute picture for the medal, symbolic for the major involvement of paratroopers in the historical campaign.

As you can see, the pictures used in these medal & badge are familiar, so I wouldn't take credit for any of it. The copyrights of these pictures are solely at their respective owners & I just used it for personal interest (for the club members as well, but not for public distribution). I welcome any comments & critiques for improvements. Hopefully by next campaign, I'm able to make a nice medal for it :)

Cheers.

Campaign Completed

After gruelling 6 weeks of intense attacks & counter-attacks, Market Garden Campaign finally over.

Axis able to defend their territories although the Allies had advanced accross half the map. We fought & we prevailed.

I'm really enjoyed & satisfied playing this campaign; since its the first time I involved completely for the game from preparing army list, painting them, threw them in hell & fortunately they survived :) I've received alot of guidance, tips & encouragement from all the players on how to play the battle properly & correctly. Thousand applauses to you guys!

As a summary, I listed out some of the main points need to be taken for all newbies when start playing miniature game (it serve as reminder for me as well):

1. Get to know your army
The first mistake I made when started playing was not fully understand the composition of the army list in the book. I generally took an army which I found interesting & didn't give much thought of a proper strategy to be use. Infantry company will always be an infantry company. I should have allocated more points for the infantry attacks rather than trying to cover all angles of attack. Infantry are at best when you gather them all in their most maximum number. Almost all players in the campaign agreed that my infantry platoons are small, which proven to be wiped out easily by turn 3. If I concentrate more firepower at the combat platoon, MGs & mortars, maybe the outcome will be slightly different.

2. REALLY get to know your army
This is really a reminder for myself. READ THROUGH THE LIST PROPERLY. I made the list & arranged them in battlefield without even consider their attacking range, firepower, & sometime doesn't even have a clue on how to use them. This lack of knowledge really cost me dearly in every single game I played. So next time when building a miniature army, please get to know the details of every single team I'll be including in.

3. Options are not shopping spree.
Greed took over when I read through the book while preparing the army list. I was very delighted to see alot of option range I'm able to include in my army that in the end, most of them didn't even made it to the game. One major example are the sniper team for my Command HQ. I spent 150pts for 3 sniper teams that I didn't use throughout the campaign. Silly me.

4. Do not take words literally
Another silly mistake I made for the list was I literally took every single wording in the book while building the army. For my Armoured Artillery Battery Platoon, there is an option to change Wespe vehicle to Hummel vehicle. And I took the meaning of the wording was "to change the gun barrel of a Wespe into a Hummel gun". And the best thing is, I only realised it when Jeff & Khairul mentioned it to me.

Well, there's all about it. The campaign was a big success for me & hopely for all the players as well. Operation Market Garden Campaign will always be a special event for me as this was the beginning point of my miniature gaming life; the first playable army list, a fully painted company complied tabtetop gaming standard & the first complete campaign played till the very end. As a reward for myself & to make it more memorial, I've made myself a FoW Newbie Gamer Badge & A Market Garden medal :) (medals & badges are only for personal usage only, copyrights reserved to their respective owners).

So, to all the player of Operation Market Garden Campaign, whether Axis or Allies, Panzergrenadierkompanie salute to all your patience & co-operation in making this campaign a success. Kudos!!!!

Panzergrenadierkompanie

Last year somewhere late October, Jeff told me & Pura, "We will be playing Market Garden Campaign & you guys will be joining me as Germans.". So we thought "Okay..its our first time playing, but yeah..we're in." That time me & Pura fought to get Fallshirmjagerkompanie (coz they're bad-ass), & he won through dice duel :( Heartbroken, I felt depressed. After awhile...I stumbled on it. I took a look at it, it captured my heart :) & immediately make it under my command.
So, after 2 months of recruitment & tortures training, the boys are ready to defend Fatherland.

During Transport to position
Reached target deployment zone
